Medicinal chemistry is a branch of pharmaceutical science that combines principles of chemistry, biology/ pharmacology, and medicine to design, synthesize, optimize, and evaluate chemical compounds for therapeutic use. The primary objective of medicinal chemistry is to discover and develop safe, effective, and less toxic drugs for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.
This text book is specially designed for Pharm D students as per PCI prescribed syllabus discussing the different drugs mentioned in the syllabus touching upon various aspects such as, systematic classification, IUPAC Nomenclature, SAR, MoA, synthesis, Therapeutic uses , brand names, dose and ADRs. In addition to this, an attempt has been made by the authors to help the students to understand and remember the topic by the summary at the end along with some model questions. In addition to this novel approach, some case studies have been cited at the end of the chapter for discussion related to the topic. Hope that these inputs will make this text book a unique approach towards easing the learning process and the students would appreciate this effort.
