Voluminous information is available in diverse sources both in research and development domain about degradation of natural resources in the vulnerable Shivalik ecosystem resulting in adverse ecological, economic and social impacts. However, no comprehensive document has so far been compiled to critically analyze these problems in historical perspective, implementation of various state, central and foreign supported soil and water conservation/watershed development schemes and projects to address these challenges including analysis of success and failures and lessons learnt.
