This book, titled “Textbook of Advanced Pharmacognosy-I,” is based on the PCI syllabus for M.Pharm Pharmacognosy, Semester-I. In the first chapter, a general introduction to the importance of Pharmacognosy in the herbal drug industry is discussed, along with excellent agricultural practises ranging from cultivation to conservation. Second chapter, marine natural products are elaborated on with general methods of isolation and purification, as well as recent developments and issues encountered in marine drug research.
The third chapter, Nutraceuticals, reviewed briefly the current trends and future scope of nutraceuticals with their many forms. Furthermore, it elaborates on neutraceutical formulation and standardization, regulatory considerations, FSSAI rules, sources, names of marker compounds and their chemical nature, medical uses, and health advantages of nutraceuticals.
The fourth chapter, Phytopharmaceuticals, discusses the occurrence, isolation, and distinguishing characteristics, as well as the chemical nature, pharmacological, and physiological benefits of major phytopharmaceuticals of interest that are relevant in health care systems.
The book’s final chapter, Pharmacovigilance of pharmaceuticals of natural origin, explains WHO and AYUSH guidelines for natural medicine safety monitoring. Spontaneous reporting approaches for bio drug adverse events, drug-drug interactions, and drug-food interactions, with appropriate examples.
This book is intended to instill in students a persistent interest and excitement for learning and developing pharmacognosy topics in an organized and step-by-step way.
